A Guest Post on Agent Nathan Bransford's Blog

To the one or two Slushpile readers who don't already read Nathan Bransford's blog:

This is the last day of Nathan's 2nd Guest Post Week, and yours truly will be the featured poster (child?). The post should go live at 8am Pacific time / 11am Eastern Time, barring accidents, and the topic is highly relevant to this site.

All of the posts this week have been very good, and I encourage you to go back and read them if you haven't already. For that matter, the blog itself is indispensable and should be part of your regular reading anyway, making this point moot. Please forgive me.

And while I'm here, thanks to all of you who post, comment, and lurk here at the Slushpile. I'm really glad this site works so well for so many!

Now it's 6:28am, and I need to get back to my manuscript...

- Rick

Rick, Congrats on the Nathan gig! Is it safe to assume he reads your slushpile? Hmmm.

I’ve been lurking here since the beginning. The reason I don’t comment is that I think most of the Query’s are okay to great. All I’m looking at is whether or not I like the plot. I’m easy, I’ll read mostly anything! That won’t help the query writer much! This site is here for writers to improve their query’s, so I lurk.

And I learn.

Thanks Charlie. There have been a few anonymous comments that I suspected may have been Nathan's, I thought I recognized his voice in the writing, but there's no telling for sure.

I do think he checks in on occasion, not sure how frequently though and whether he lurks or is actively (and anonymously) commenting. When I first started this site he mentioned it in a This Week in Publishing post, and that really helped kick-start the Slushpile, so I attribute a lot of this blog's success to his help in promoting it.

I've also posted links to it in comments on Janet Reid's blog and the BoookEnds blog (I try to make it relevant to the post when I do), and I know readers of both agents' blogs have stopped by. Not sure if the agents themsleves do. Jessica Faust at BookEnds agreed to my interview request at least!

I plan to do another round of interview requests to other agents who politely declined the first round due to time constraints, but indicated they may be open to it later. Stay tuned for that...

Good luck and congrats! I'll be checking it out after 11 EST.

Bet the site here will be FLOODED with new people afterward.

Hey, if this site is indeed flooded, everybody wins.

Then I may need to find an assistant moderator ;-)

Hey Rick, congrats on your post over at Nathan's.

The whole blog networking thing can be a hoot. I've met some awesome writers who stop on by my blog thanks to Nathan's blog and others (like BookEnds).

I will now be brave and send you my query for my latest novel BEAUTY SECRETS...
